MOJO - May 2005
MOJO Honours List

MOJO and HMV launch the MOJO Honours List 2005 with musical friends Roy Harper, Teenage Fanclub, Elbow and The Magic Numbers.

This year's MOJO Honours List will be held on June 16th at the Porchester Hall in London. A star-spangled awards ceremony, it is launched on May 4 at the HMV flagship store on London's Oxford Street with an evening of extraordinary music. Hosted by MOJO's Editor-In-Chief Phil Alexander, the MOJO Honours List launch will feature an array of acts hand-picked by the magazine and spanning the musical generations. As well as live sets from the acts, the launch will include the announcement of the first wave of award nominees plus the handing out of the very first MOJO award of 2005.

Joining MOJO for this special evening are rising London quartet The Magic Numbers whose harmony-heavy, soulful sound has seen them described as the band of 2005. Signed to the Heavenly label, the Numbers recently played South By South West to critical acclaim. Also on the bill are returning Scottish melodists Teenage Fanclub whose Man Made album is set for release on the PEMA label on May 9. They start a major UK tour following the Honours List launch. Completing this fine selection of contemporary acts is another MOJO favourite. Elbow have been recording an autumn-scheduled album since their exceptional set at Glastonbury last year, but they'll be dusting off their acoustics for this special show and giving lucky attendees a sample of their new songs.

A real British treasure, Roy Harper's poetic prowess and defined playing style have seen him influence everyone from Kate Bush to Peter Gabriel, while his friendship with Jimmy Page is underlined by the immortal Hats Off To Roy Harper on Led Zeppelin III.

Tickets for the launch are free, you can get details by going to or while MOJO readers will also receive a further chance to win tickets to the MOJO Honours List ceremony itself in next month's issue of the magazine.
